Painting my bookcase?
I have this reproduction antique bookcase. It is tall with doors. The doors on the top have arched glass panes and the bottom ones are solid. It has nice carved mouldings and is a very dark mahogany finish. It’s a lovely piece of furniture. Thing is, it’s too dark for our house. Being that it’s quite tall it really closes the room in. And our rooms are already small enough and dark enough. So I was thinking about painting it. Contemplating a white provincial type finish or maybe even limewash. But everyone I’ve told thinks I’ll wreck it. Should I paint it? Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) in painting furniture? Any other ideas I could do with it? Haven’t had much luck selling it (we’re not a charity so we’re not giving it away – thanks for nothing ebay!) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

we had this built-in book case made from a very dark
we didn’t like the dark wood so we had painted it a high gloss white
now it looks cleaner and makes our room look larger and brighter
